Extraction of the family book for the first time
Legislative and regulatory references :

Conditions for having the service :
- The applicant must be Tunisian and married
- The request for a family book is by the head of the family, the divorced wife if she does not remarry, authorizes the widow who remains entrusted to him If a judgment is not issued otherwise.
- The marriage contract must be entered into in the municipality’s territorial reference circle, whether by the municipality or by the certification level.
The required documents :
Submit a file containing the following documents:
- A photograph of the head of the family
- A copy of the husband’s ID card.
- A marriage certificate
- A birth certificate for both spouses
- Birth certificates for the rest of the family (if the family book is extracted after a period of marriage)
- The costs employed on the family book
Filing placement :
- Civil Status service in the municipality or the municipal department
- The embassy or the consulate
- Delegation outside the municipal areas
Placement for having the service :

- The family record book is delivered right away on the occasion of the marriage contract or within a week in other cases.
- When the requirement to obtain a family book is synchronous with the conclusion of the marriage contract in front of the civil status officer, the same civil status documents prepared for the contract are used for the preparation of the family book for the first time.
- Everything included in the family book can only be done by a qualified civil status officer, and no other person may make any modifications or notes to the family book.
- In case of the family head’s death who maintains the family book or in case of issuance of a judgment stripping him of his civil rights, the wife has the right to keep the book unless a judgment is contradicted.
- Civil status documents extracted from the family book have "legally" the same force of proof as the documents extracted from the original notebook.
- Anyone who intentionally uses documents written in accordance with a family book that includes incomplete or incorrect instructions shall be punished with imprisonment for a period of one year and with a fine of 240 dinars.
- The family book is delivered to married couples before the civil status law issued during the year 1957 from the place of birth of the husband.
